RVSM Airspace

In January 2005, the FAA designated flight levels 290 through 410 in North America as Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) airspace. Operators are now required to obtain special approval for flight operations conducted in this airspace. To obtain approval, operators must submit a properly completed application to their local FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) for each aircraft acquisition. Once the application is approved, an RVSM Letter of Authorization (LOA) is issued that grants RVSM operations.
